Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
